If you're looking for some creative marriage proposals that are perfectly suited to the girl you want to marry, check out the ideas below.
These proposals are ones that I've dreamed up in my head, and also a few that I've heard about or seen featured online.
I'll give you the quick run-down in point-form, and elaborate in more detail below, using some of the best creative marriage proposal stories I've heard of. Hopefully this will give you some examples of how it can be pulled off.
Good luck with your proposal!
Best Creative Marriage Proposals
Recreate your first date. (See Mikaela and Shane's example below)
Create a scavenger hunt with clues written on slips of paper. One clue leads to the next, with the final destination being your proposal. (See Roxanna and Tony's example below)
Propose right before getting on a roller coaster, and have your first picture as an engaged couple taken by that instant camera that snaps everyone's pic as you whiz by. BUY the picture to remind you of an amazing time.
Find out how her parents got engaged and copy that engagement (or part of it) if you know she loves her parents' engagement story
Propose while scuba diving
Take her on a sweet vacation to a tropical location and propose in a romantic spot
Make a short movie of yourself about to propose, take her to the theatre, and secretly have the theatre people play it as a trailer right before the feature movie starts. Then propose in the theatre. (See first video below)
Fake an accident, freak her out, but have the result being you holding up a "Will You Marry Me?" sign. (See second video below)
Take her hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, or snowboarding. Tell her you need to take a leak, quickly go set up your romantic forested proposal location (think candles, flowers, wine, etc), and when she comes looking for you to find out what's taking so long, propose
If you have access to a farm and farming equipment, spell out "Will You Marry Me" in a field of grain by mowing out the letters, rent a helicopter/small plane, and fly her over your message
Tell her you got tickets to an amazing outdoor concert, and drive her there. When you arrive, there is no concert, but you set up the stage (ahead of time) with flowers, candles, wine, comfy chairs, etc for a great proposal. Have all your friends hiding behind the stage so they can come party with you after you pop the question.
Organize a flash mob to spontaneously break into song, with you proposing at the end of it
Propose on her favourite radio station at a time you know she'll be listening (like her morning drive to work). Follow it up by having the deejay play your song.
Take her to a concert and have the band ask her to marry you from the stage (arrange it ahead of time, obviously!). This could also work if a celebrity she loves is coming to town, etc.
Every engagement is unique in its own way. If you want to do the standard dinner and a movie thing, that's fine.
But if you want to make it creative and memorable, you're going to have to plan ahead and get yourself a bit organised. Work out the details, plan out the location, get friends involved if necessary, etc. Don't limit yourself!
If she says yes, you may live happily ever after, but even if she says no, you'll at least have had the time of your life, plus you'll have a great story to tell!
Creative Marriage Proposals Examples
Here are a few examples of creative marriage proposals, just to get your juices flowing. Pictures of the engagement are followed by descriptions underneath each one.
My friend Shane proposed to his beautiful girlfriend, Mikaela, by recreating their first date which had been at Starbucks… except that he created his own personal "Starbucks" in a gorgeous grassy field for the proposal.
Thinking that they were going on a photography fieldtrip (she's a photographer), Shane led her to the field, then blind-folded her for the final part of the walk. When the blindfold came off, she pretty much knew it was going to be a proposal.
But the amazing part was all the little details that Shane had put into it. For example, he made the exact same drinks they'd had on their first date, wrote a sweet message on the menu board, hung a "wifey" sign from a tree (instead of wi-fi), and designed a "pick of my life" card (that looks just like those "pick of the week" itunes cards you get at Starbucks).
Mikaela and Shane recently got married, and their wedding was just as amazing as the proposal. If you'd like to read more about this fabulous creative marriage proposal, you can check it out on Mikaela's blog.
My second cousin Roxanna had been dating Tony for a couple years. One day, not long ago, he planned a romantic date for her, which turned out to be a scavenger hunt around town.
The first clue was for her to meet at the place where they had shared their first kiss (his place), and from there the clues led them out to dinner, to the local corn maze, and finally to a walking trail where they had spent hours getting to know each other in the early days of their relationship.
The last clue led her to a tunnel, (which Tony had chalk-graffitied earlier on in the day). They kept walking until they got to the tunnel, but once they arrived Roxy was confused as the tunnel was empty. Then she spotted the graffiti and pretty much clued into what was about to happen :)
The picture was of him proposing, and Roxy accepting. When she turned around, there he was, down on one knee, asking her to marry him. She said yes!
In the video above (in case you didn't get a chance to watch it), Matt proposes to his girlfriend, Ginny by making a movie trailer of him asking her dad for Ginny's hand in marriage. He plays the trailer while Ginny is at the movies with her brother, and races into the theatre at the end of the trailer to propose in person.
Very cool idea, and it's gotten about 20 million views on YouTube!
Here is one of the most creative marriage proposals EVER:
In this video, Josh falls off the roof of a building while his girlfriend, Brooke, is watching. She is mortified, but when she looks down he's landed on a big air mattress and is holding a "Will You Marry Me?" sign.
This is a bit of a risky proposal… I keep thinking, "What if he'd missed the air mattress and splattered himself all over the parking lot?", but everything turned out just fine, as you can see!

My proposal was SO much better than all of these!
