Phase 10... Give it a Try!
The ONLY game that comes close to being as much fun as Dutch Blitz is Phase 10, I'd have to say! In fact, this is a nice, relaxing game to play after Dutch Blitz, as it gets your heart rate back to normal!
Here are the basics of how the game works:The object of the game is to finish all ten phases before the other players do. The ten phases are written down on an instruction card that comes with the game, but basically they are things like getting "two sets of three," "a set of three and a run of four," "a run of seven," etc. The higher the phase, the more difficult the task. Once you complete a phase, you move on to the next one, hopefully leaving other players behind to finish the phase they're still working on.
To play this game, you need 2-6 players and a pack of Phase 10 cards. Each player is dealt ten cards, and you then take turns playing your cards. On each turn you must both pick up a card, and discard a card to the pile in the middle. Then you take a look at the ten cards in your hand and use them to try to fulfill the phase you're working on (eg- "two sets of three"). If you accomplish the phase, you put those cards down on the table, and move onto the next phase.
There are also a couple special cards in each deck: the wild card and the skip card. The wild card can be used to take the place of any card that you choose... very handy! Skip cards are used to skip a person of your choice's turn. You can use this to your advantage, OR form alliances with people so they won't choose to skip YOU when they have a skip card later on in the game!

Even the dog likes Phase 10!
The last time we played this game, we had a little chat about whether this is more of a "luck" or a "skill" game. We came to the conclusion that it's about 80% luck (what cards you are dealt and pick up) and 20% skill (using strategy to win). I usually prefer skill games over luck games, but this one is a pretty good mix.
Give it a try!
